Pros: I absolutely though adored the continuous theme of God in this book and how it did not seem forced at all! If you are looking for a Christian-romance, this may be a good one for you depending on what level of physicality you are comfortable with. And I also liked that a good portion of it was not placed in the scene of the ton. That makes it stand out from so many others written in this era. The plot was well done and there were a few twists in there I didn't expect and usually, I'm good at predicting outcomes of most books. Yes, happy ending, but the journey of how it got there was surprisingly unexpected.Cons: Personally, I enjoy the story and the developing feelings more than the physical parts in themselves. While this book is clean, I would definitely caution against it for younger readers. While kisses are few, they are pretty "heady". This is definitely a more PG-13 type of book in that sense. No groping or anything, but I shifted comfortably in certain places. (Note that uncomfortable for me, may not be for you. I'm a little prudish so to speak and again enjoy the story more so than the physical aspects. I enjoy more "tender" than "passion").
I also did not like the heroine at all in the beginning. Most of the book I didn't like her. I knew her character was supposed to change from shallow to something deeper, and while I saw that in a sense, I didn't really like her until the last few chapters, even then it was barely so. And the hero "fell in love" with her quicker than I expected and when she beyond shallow and spoiled.
Overall not a bad book. I enjoyed it. I did regret purchasing it for $10 though. Most books I purchase aren't that much and I enjoy a great deal more.... but that's a personal preference.
Could it have been better? In my personal tastes, yes.
But was it bad? Absolutely not!
Will I read it again? Yes, I probably will!
Hence my 4/5 stars! Wonderful job Michelle! :)

I really liked this story by Michelle Griep. She is a fairly new-to-me author and I am impressed with her writing style. Nicholas Brentwood is hired to protect the daughter of a wealthy Mr. Payne while he is away on business. Emily Payne is not very happy about having a guardian at her age and gives Nicholas a run for his money trying to keep her out of trouble.
While these two slowly get to know each other, someone is out to do Emily harm and no one knows why. There is some mystery, intrigue and suspense while Emily and Nicholas try to figure out who is trying to harm her and why. Emily, with a little help from Nicholas, also learns to trust in God and have renewed faith in Him.
If you are interested in clean, historical romances with suspense and drama, you just might like this book as much as I do. The story is well-written and the characters are well-developed. Enjoy!
Our hero isn't a lord or a very wealthy man. He's an honorable man, a talented man and a man who seeks justice. Nicholas Brentwood is a police detective in London back in the days when they were call Bow Street Runners. Greipe does a good job telling a story of a spoiled rotten rich young lady in the early 1800s whose father is quite the dirty dog. Probably the most honorable thing this man did was hire Nicholas to be the guardian of his daughter, Emily Payne. Poor Nicholas for Emily's name is says it all she really is a pain. Fortunately Emily grows up and realizes good men aren't what society standards says or thinks. Good men are revealed by their actions and words. Sadly Emily come to this conclusion when she is entangled in her father's deceits and her life and virtues are a grave risk.
Some parts of this story are a little hard to take. Attempted rape one night, potential but thwarted kid napping that same night then kid napped a few days later. This poor girl sure gets quite a few dirty rats who want to due her in in a very short time. Yep- Nicholas to the rescue......
This was a Christian Historical Romance that I thought was very good. The plot was good and and the story was well-written. It also had its share of mystery and twists and turns.
Nicholas Brentwood is a very astute, down-to-earth lawman...Bow Street Runner, who is put in an awkward situation due to personal reasons. He is given an opportunity to better his circumstances by becoming the guardian of a very spoiled Emily Payne. He eventually finds out why no one else wanted to take on the task as she is determined to find a husband during the season, as well as put her life in danger at every turn. Nicholas, on the other hand, needs the money in order to save his ailing sister and agrees to guard Emily...theres where the trouble begins.
The characters go through a series of loss and rescues that leaves their personal desires to nought. In the end, they find love and discover that God is in charge and controled every mishaps through their journey to stay alive and reach their HEA.
The heroine was irritating and her naivity showed when the hero had to rescuee her too many times because of her pig-headedness and not staying put as told. Although the story had very few passionate scenes, the love between the major characters was evident. A nice faith-based love story that I thought was very refreshing, especially for the hero in the story. He let his faith lead and guide him in his walk as a lawman. A clean romance novel by Michele Griep that I would recommend to anyone who from time to time want to read clean romance.
Narration was by Pam Purlow and was spot on. The music between Chapters did irk me a bit as it made it seem as if the story was coming to an end. The music was not necessary.
